In another huge showing from an ADRL superstar during testing, current Extreme 10.5 World Champion Billy Glidden steered his 404 ci., small-block-Ford-powered ‘06 GTO over the eighth mile at Silver Dollar Raceway in just 4.04 seconds—a full six-hundredths quicker than his own official ADRL record. He also made a lap in 4.09 seconds at 170.32 mph.
Glidden was quick to discount the effort made this afternoon at Reynolds, GA, however, explaining to your Agent that he had a “experimental” set-up in his car and was running in “fantasyland conditions.”
“I usually hit fifth gear at about four seconds, but with the way things were here today it was about 3.55 to 3.6 seconds,” he said. The early incrementals on the 4.04 pass incuded a 1.0-flat to 60 feet and 2.64 to the 330-foot marker.
Despite his early success in testing, Glidden said he’d be reverting to a tried-and-true raceday set-up for the Hardee’s Georgia Drags V this weekend at South Georgia Motorsports Park. He said he needs at least a dozen or so runs with any experiment before feeling comfortable enough to take it into competition.
“I’ve got my engines accelerating a little quicker now, but it’s not like I’m about to find 900 cubic inches worth of horsepower. I have to work with what I have and I’ve got a few deals that look promising, but until I get a tuning window, something I can make predictions with, I’m not going to go racing with it,” Glidden stated.
